racers only.

AJ Foyt.. Met him at TMS a couple times. he was nice then , but his
reputation is reality
Bitch slapping Arie Lyendyke(sp) from behind at TMS after
the first IRL race there is one example
Sam Hornish... personal experience from TMS..met him twice, he is just a
total asshole!
Eddie Cheever... just an all around asshole!

Can't really think of any others, I am basing it on personal experience and
not what the media or the biased fans here

You gotta also ask abouot the nice guys..
Dale Earnhardt, met him twice and both times he was as genuine a person as
you wanna meet.
Kyle Petty... very nice guy who went out of his way to left me get pictures
of him and Adam on PR at TMS.
Helio Castro Neves... he was very fun to be around, very gracious. it's hard
not to like this guy
I told him you got 2 you got 2... He just
laughed and posed with the girlfriend for a great picture!
Mario Andretti.. He was really cool when I met him at behind the pits @ TMS
during the CART debacle
Roger Penske.. Same as Mario, very gracious and accomodating to the fans @
TMS
Adrian Fernandez... what a great guy, allowed me to get up close and
personal in his pit area during CART practice @ TMS
Also got some great shots with him and the
Tecate girls!! very nice guy.
Dario Franchitti..the girlfriend and I talked with him for about 10 15
minutes at TMS.. really nice guy. got a great pic of he
and my girlfriend (she is a very big fan of his,
and even bigger now)
Alex Zanardi... Another all around great guy!.. too bad he is not in IRL or
CART anymore.. he was great!
The Bradley IRL team and all the guys, I was waling around the garage area @
TMS early in the morning.
Most of the garage doors were pulled shut. these guys saw me watching the
work they were doing thourgh
the garage door windows. the chief mechanic (can't remember his name, saw
me. He came over and opened the door
and asked if I wanted to come in and see what was going on. I said no and
tha I did not want to get in the way.
He insisted, so I spent the rest of the weekend hangin around with them in
the garage, and on PR..I can't even remember who was driving
I think it was Sam Schmidt, but I'm not sure.. never got to meet the
driver, but thos guys on his team were something else
They saw I had a digital that used floppies for storage.. I took pictures
of the team for them and gave them the disk.
Just a bunch of nice guys! I got some of the absolutely best up close and
personal shots for thos cars anyone could ask for.

I could go on...
I'll say that to me there are lot more nice guys than assholes/jerks by far

Put Ward Burton down as one of the nice guys.

My mom and dad went thru his shop the summer after he won the 500. After
chatting with him for awhile and sigining my mom's shirt my mom was telling
him how they didn't have any of his Daytona 500 winner hats at Daytona USA.
He went behind the counter and grabbed one, signed it and handed it to her.
When my dad went to pay for it Ward sad it was on him. Now I know that
their cost for a hat is probably next to nothing, but it still was a very
cool move on his part.

Great short little UCAP!!
Never met Ward, but he strikes me as a pretty cool guy.
I'm sure his brother is no differnet.

I have had the opportunity to hang out in the garage area at a few races.
From what I can tell, Dale Jarrett and Kevin Harvick are the biggest jerks.
Actually, Tony Stewart is, but that's a given.

My Dad & brother-in-law met Ward at the Brickyard a few years ago and
thought the same thing -- helluva nice, down to earth guy.

I can't argue those two. I've never seen anyone avoid fans more than
Sam Hornish.

Eddie Cheever... just an all around asshole!
I 'shared a moment' with Mr. Cheever. I was at the media center, and
Eddie had just appeared on Sportscenter from Indy. I was on the balcony
of the forth floor of the media center when who should stand next to me,
but Eddie Cheever. He looked at me, and I looked at him, and we smiled.
It was too loud to say anything, but Eddie looked really happy just to
sit there and lean on the side for a few minutes.

Helio is a gift. There was no one I was happier to see in the IMS
garage than Helio, cause he was always doing something. Dan Wheldon,
Tony Kanaan and Gil de Ferran are the same way, and are always very nice
to talk to.

Adrian is a great guy, whom I've always respected, but I didn't like
Dario until I met him. He's a good guy.

Some others:
Robby McGehee - I did a large piece on him, and he was just a fun guy to
work with. Really accomadating, would often talk to me like another
guy, and was as nice as can be to me and the fans.

Ward Burton - I've met Ward twice now, and he's been just about the
nicest guy both times. Very gentlemenly.

Buddy Rice, Buddy Lazier, and just about everyone I met in the IndyCar
garage was nice.

The only negitive experence I have had with anyone in racing is Robin
Miller, who sneered at me every time I saw him.
But that might just be how he looks, who knows.

Neds other son Glenn was absolute true gentleman. I asked him to sign my
hat inbetween takes while he was doing a spont at Pocono about 10 years ago.
Took time out of his work day to sign a hat with a smile. I also miss Ned,

I met Ned & Dale both when DJ drove for Joe Gibbs, and both were warm &

autographing my 18 car with a Bengs helmet on the roof).

Too easy. My vote goes to the cheatenous (at home and on the track), nasally
little weasel in the 24 car. His haircut at the start of this season iced it.

When I met Dale, he was warm and friendly.

My hubby's boss worked for Miller for several years, and met with Rusty
on several occasions, and thought very highly of him. But he thought
Bobby Rahal was a bit of a jerk! Weird, because people usually think
the opposite of Rusty & Bobby.

I know it's not nice to speak ill of the dead since they can't defend
themselves, but Peter Gregg, the noted sports car driver who did a few
NASCAR races, was not the nicest individual I ever encountered in my life,
and that's using about as much understatement as I can muster up.

I never encountered Foyt in anything but group situations. He had the
reputation of being hard to deal with, and he could be depending on the mood
you caught him in, although my understanding was that he was much less that
way in NASCAR settings than he was in Indy-car settings. The thing is, the
A.J. of today has become kind of a buffoon and a caricature of what he once
was. Twenty or 30 years ago, he could be moody and ill-tempered but he could
also flash a smile that would charm the scales off a snake.

Going in the opposite direction, I think I've said this here before but I'll
repeat it ... in all the years I covered racing, I never encountered a nicer
individual, and I'll go so far as to say I never encountered a better human
being and a more legitimately honest and real individual, than the late Neil
Bonnett.

I've only met three of these guys -- Kyle Petty, Steve Park & Harry
Gant at my charity ride encounter in BFE, Arkansas.

Kyle was signing anything anyone put in front of him -- one gal had
him sign a Mark Martin (hometown favorite) shirt she was wearing.

I had to wonder how Kyle felt signing stuff for a racer that had been
killed a few months earlier (DE, of course) when he'd lost his own son
a year earlier. But he never wavered or flinched, he was so gracious.

Ditto for Steve Parkand High Groove Harry. Both very nice guys.
